现任上海环境学会固体废物专业委员会主任委员，国家环保部、科技部和商务部国家生态工业示范园区建设领导小组特聘技术专家。澳大利亚UTS大学环境工程系访问教授，现任上海大学环境化工学院副院长，学院研究生党总支书记，担任欧盟05-07年欧盟-浦东中国环境生态改善、日本川崎-浦东2010循环经济等国际项目中方技术负责人。

钱光人教授的科研领域为城市矿产资源高效利用和产业生态，研究方向包括垃圾焚烧飞灰和重金属污泥等危险废物的资源化和安全处置风险评估、工业固体废物基的环境材料、CaMg-LDH层间化合物的原位调控形成和污染物的自净化修复、城市污泥和垃圾渗滤液等生物质废物的能源转换。作为项目负责人成果分别获得2000中国人民解放军科技进步二等奖、2008上海科技进步技术发明二等奖、2012环保部科技进步二等奖。已在环境工程领域国际和学术期刊上发表论文百余篇，其中SCI源刊物上发表论文80余篇，取得国家发明专利18项、实用新型专利1项，

研究团队同时在推进国家产业生态领域成绩显著，是国家生态工业建设领导小组特聘技术专家，近几年负责编制完成了上海国家金桥经济开发区、张江高科技园区、漕河泾开发区、闵行经济开发区、上海市北工业园区、上海漕河泾浦江园区、上海南汇工业园区、上海综合工业园区、上海化工区奉贤工业园区、安徽池洲国家经济开发区、江苏连云港徐圩国家中东西产业开发区等园区的国家生态园区建设规划，编制了新浦东国家生态城区和生态文明示范区建设规划。钱光人教授团队规划推进的金桥、张江、漕河泾和闵开发生态园区建设已通过国家三部委正式验收，其中上海金桥的工业生态文明成果被环保部推荐列入2011年中央党校干部培训中国生态文明十大典型案例；上海闵开发园区企业社会责任成果被环保部推荐为联合国规划署2013中国工业园区生态文明唯一案例。

钱光人教授先后获得2009上海育才奖和2011上海大学王宽成育才奖。
