Abstract

Semiconductor materials hold the key for efficient photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting. In this talk, we will give a brief overview of our recent progress in designing semiconductornanomaterials for photoelectrochemical energy conversionincluding solar hydrogen generation. In more details, we have been focusing on a couple of aspects; 1)band-gap engineering, facet and oxygen vacancy control of low-cost metal oxide based semiconductors including TiO2, Fe2O3, BiVO4and Cu2O for new photoelectrode design,and2) the combination of high performance photoelectrodes with hybrid perovskite solar cells towards unassisted water splitting process with solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of >6.5%.The resultant material systems exhibited efficient photocatalytic performanceand improved power conversion efficiency in solar cells, which underpin sustainable development of solar-energy conversion application.

Biography:

Prof. Wang mainly engages in the research of functional nanomaterials and nano-devices, and their application in clean energy conversion, including nano-photocatalytic materials, new-generation solar cells, and new rechargeable batteries. he has published more than 220 papers in many international journals (Chem Rev., Chem. Soc. Rev., Adv. Mater., J. Am. Chem. Soc, Angew. Chem., etc.), 9 monograph chapters, and 12 patents. In recent years, as the main person in charge, Prof. Wang has undertaken more than 30 competitive research projects including the Australian Funding Committee, the Australian Academy of Sciences, the Australian Collaborative Innovation Center, the Queensland State Government and the industry, with a total amount of over 16 million AUDs.
